Suspected robber killed in ‘gunfight’ with rivals

Police say they were informed by his family that he was kidnapped by his rivals a few days back, so it is possible that he might have been killed by the rivals in Feni

Police have recovered the body of a suspected robber from Nazirpur village of Sonagazi upazila, Feni.

The deceased, Nizam Uddin, 40, --a resident of, Companiganj upazila, Noakhali-- was accused in several cases, a top outlaw of the area and a member of an inter-district robber gang, police sources said.

Locals heard the sound of three gunshots around 10pm Tuesday and informed police, confirmed Sonagazi police station OC Sajedul Islam.

“We sent his body for autopsy and also recovered a locally made weapon with five rounds of bullets,” said the OC.

Contacted, Noakhali’s Companiganj police station Inspector Rabiul Islam said: “Nizam had recently been bailed out from jail and resumed his unlawful activities in the adjacent areas again.

“We had been informed by his family that he was kidnapped by his rivals a few days back. So it is possible that he might have been killed by his rivals in Feni.”
