A coronavirus (Covid-19) patient committed suicide jumping off the rooftop of an under construction building in Rajbari.
The incident took place in Binodpur of Rajbari Sadar upazila on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Tapan Dutt, 45, son of Nittalal Roy of the same area.
Locals said Tapan learned that he tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. After members from the district's health department visited his house on Thursday afternoon, he and his family members fled.
Health authorities visited their home again in the evening and informed their neighbours that the family must return to the house by 10pm on that day.
Later that evening, Tapan jumped off a rooftop from a three-storey under construction building at the Bhajanchala intersection of the upazila.
Rajbari Sadar police station OC, Shopon Kumar Majumdar, said Tapan was severely injured from the fall and was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
