Ex-AL leader arrested for murder of Jubo League activist

On June 22, 2019, assailants hacked Liton to death and used explosives as a diversion after entering the regional Jubo League office in the Ghop Central road area

On suspicion, police arrested a former Awami League (AL) leader in connection with a case filed for the murder of Jubo League activist Arafat Munnaf Liton in Jessore.

SS Yusuf Sayeed, media and research secretary of Awami League's former district committee, was arrested from Ghop Noapara road area in the early hours of Friday. This was confirmed by Harun Or Rashid, inspector of Jessore city’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Liton's cousin Ramzanul Islam Pintu filed a case against 15 people who were named, and 10-12 others unnamed, in connection with the incident.

On June 22, 2019, assailants hacked Liton to death and used explosives as a diversion after entering the regional Jubo League office in the Ghop Central road area, according to police and local political activist sources.

The accused named in the case are: Sujon, Rasel, Mahir, Alamin, Hridoy, Sagar, Sabbir, Shakil alias Chashma Shakil, Hannan, Rial, Shanu, Shakil, MA Kahsem, Sohrab Hossain, and Akash.

Of them, Akash was killed in a reported gunfight with his rivals.
