A madrasa teacher in Feni has been stabbed by a student’s father for demanding tuition fees.
The victim, Maulana Mamunur Rashid, founding director of Darul Iman Islami Madrasa, was stabbed by Jahangir Alam, father of one of his former students, at the ward no 1 of Feni Municipality on Sunday afternoon.
Rashid, who is also a Khatib at a local mosque, has filed a case regarding the incident with Feni Model police station.
CCTV footage of the incident was uploaded on Facebook, generating massive dissatisfaction and anger among locals. They have demanded justice for the injured madrasa teacher.
Rashid, in his case statement, said that Jahangir Alam's son Washi Alam Shanto, used to study at his madrasa. Recently his parents shifted him from Darul Iman Islami Madrasa to Feni Al Jamiatul Falahiya Kamil Madrasa without paying around Tk8,000 which was due in tuition fees. When Rashid asked for the money, Jahangir got angry and a scuffle broke out and stabbed him.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Feni Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, said: “We are trying to arrest Jahangir as soon as possible.”
