The 18-bed unit to serve Rohingyas, locals
The coastal district of Cox's Bazar has got its first ever intensive care unit (ICU) to treat people with severe symptoms of Covid-19.
The 18-bed unit was inaugurated at the Sadar Hospital on Saturday by the government of Bangladesh and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) through a virtual event as part of celebrations of World Refugee Day.
Of the 18 beds, 10 are equipped with life-saving ventilators while the remaining 8 are high-dependency beds.
This unit is the first of its kind in Cox’s Bazar.
The ICU will serve the needs of the Rohingyas and local community members with the most severe coronavirus symptoms.
