Flood situation may worsen in 4 districts by Sunday morning

Water levels at 78 river stations marked rise until 9am Saturday

The flood situation in four districts — Kurigram, Gaibandha, Sylhet and Sunamganj — may worsen in the next 24 hours, until 9am Sunday, according to a bulletin from the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

However, the bulletin issued on Saturday morning said that the flood situation in Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari was likely to remain stable.

The bulletin, which showed data available until 9am Saturday, said that water levels of all main rivers were on rising trend and it would likely continue in the next three days.

In the next 24 hours, it said, water level of Jamuna River may cross danger level at Sariyakandi and Kazipur points, while it may cross danger level at Sirajganj point in the next 48 hours.

In the next 24-48 hours, water levels of northeastern rivers Kushiyara, Someshwari, Bhugai and Kangsha are likely to cross the danger level.

Teesta water level is likely to remain steady, while rising trend of Dharala may continue and it may either cross the danger level or not in the next 24 hours, added the bulletin.

Water levels at 78 river stations out of total 101 monitored by the FFWC marked rise until 9am Saturday while 23 stations recorded fall.

Water levels were flowing over the danger level at nine stations.
