Three men have been killed in a road accident in Mirzapur, Tangail, after a truck driver lost control and crashed the vehicle into the road divider.
The incident took place in Charpara bypass area on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Gorai highway police station OC Md Moniruzzaman said the three men died on the spot after the Pabna-bound truck, which was carrying some 15-20 tons of iron sheets, crashed into the road divider.
Police identified the deceased as Shakirul Islam, Karim, 30, and Sohel, 31, who were sitting on the small cabin behind the driver’s seat when the accident happened. All three were from Pabna.
“We think the three deceased were labourers. The truck’s driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene after the accident,” said OC Moniruzzaman.
He added police were working on handing over the victims’ bodies to their families following procedure.
