UPDF member shot dead in Khagrachhari

A member of the United People Democratic Front (UPDF) was reportedly shot dead in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari.

Quoting locals, police confirmed the death of one person who was killed in front of his house at Hajapara village under the upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased, Dharmajay Tripura, an activist of the Prasit Bikash Khisha-led UPDF --a regional political party of Chittagong Hill Tracts--was shot dead by armed assailants of a rival group, said Angya Marma, convener of the UPDF's Khagrachhari chapter.

Uttam Chandra Deb, OC of Dighinala police station, said: “Police recovered the dead body from the spot and it will be soon sent to a hospital for autopsy.

“Dharmajay was assassinated over regional political rivalry,” said the officer.
