Fire breaks out at Mercantile Cooperative Bank Ltd in Bogra

The incident took place around 7:30pm on the first floor of the two storey building in B-block of Majhira cantonment

A fire broke out at the Mercantile Cooperative Bank Ltd in Bogra's Shajahanpur upazila, damaging furniture, electrical appliances, and documents, on Thursday evening.

The incident took place around 7:30pm on the first floor of the two storey building in B-block of Majhira cantonment.

There is an Agrani Bank branch on the second floor of the building where the fire broke out.

Bazlur Rashid, station officer of Bogra Fire Service and Civil Defence said the fire was brought under control by 9pm on Thursday. The fire service reached the spot around 8pm. "The bank might have sustained a loss of at least Tk20 lakh. We are suspecting an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire."

Branch manager Abul Hasnat claimed they have suffered a loss of at least Tk30 lakh.
