Three journalists of a local daily in Habiganj have been granted bail in a Digital Security case on charges of running ‘fake news’ against a local lawmaker.

Bangla newspaper Dainik Amar Habiganj’s Executive Editor Nuruzzaman Manik, News Editor Raihan Uddin Sumon and Chief Reporter Tareq Habib were released from the jail on Monday after a Habiganj sessions judge granted them bail earlier in the day.

The three journalists surrendered to the local police on June 28, when the court denied bail and sent them to prison.

Earlier, the newspaper’s editor, Sushanata Das Gupta secured bail from the High Court in the case filed by the Habiganj Press Club General Secretary Sayeduzzaman Zahir.

In the case, Sayeduzzaman accused the media outlet of running ‘fake and baseless reports’ against Habiganj 3 MP Md Abu Zahir.
