Police claim three constables have also been injured in the gunfight
A robber has been arrested after he got injured in a reported gunfight with police at Shibganj upazila in Bogra.
The gunfight took place on Bogra-Shibganj road in Nagarjani area near Mahasthan Museum early Tuesday.
Three members of the law enforcement agency were also injured in the gunfight, police claimed.
The suspected robber is identified as Zillur Rahman alias Zillu Kana,48, a resident of Baluahat village in Sonatala upazila of the district.
He has five cases, including of robbery, filed against him with Sonatala and other police stations, police said.
Mahasthan Museum police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Chan Mia said a gang of 10 to 12 robbers was preparing to commit robbery after stopping two microbuses and a human hauler around 1:30am.
On information, a patrol team of police led by the sub-inspector reached the spot.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, the robbers retreated from the scene.
Later, the law enforcers searched the area and found Zillur lying with bullet-wounds at a nearby paddy field, SI Chan Mia said.
Zillur was admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in Bogra.

Meanwhile, police constables Rajib Hossain, Bachchu Mia, and Ashiqul Islam took treatment at Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, the police official added.
The law enforcers recovered a locally made gun and sharp weapons from the spot.
Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Badiuzzaman said a case has been filed against Zillur and police are conducting drives to arrest his accomplices.
