Teenager drowned, minor missing in Jamalpur boat capsize

A teenage girl died and a 10-year-old went missing as a boat carrying a groom's party capsized in Jamalpur.

The incident took place on Monday around 9pm when the boat collided with a bridge in a tributary of the Jamuna River at Jamalpur Sadar's Baliadangi region, according to locals.

The deceased was identified as Biddut Akter, 17, daughter of Foltu Miya of Bamna village. The missing is Alfi, 10, daughter of Abdul Miya.

The rest of the passengers on the boat managed to swim ashore while two others were admitted to the upazila hospital after the incident.

Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mizanur Rahman said the two, who were taken to hospital, are out of danger.
