Shafi was hospitalized at around 1:30pm on Tuesday, says CMCH Director SM Humayun Kabir
Shah Ahmed Shafi, leader of the radical Islamist group Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, has been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) again.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, CMCH Director Brig Gen SM Humayun Kabir said Shafi was hospitalized at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday.
“He is undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. He is now suffering from disorientation due to his advanced age. We will conduct some tests to determine his current condition,” said the CMCH Director.
Earlier on June 7, the nonagenarian spiritual leader, also called Boro Hujur (senior guide) by his followers, was admitted to CMCH with multiple old-age complications, including diabetes, high blood pressure and low sodium level.
Shafi is the rector of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam, also known as Hathazari Madrasa.
He is also the chairman of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh.
