The incident took place at the east end of Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail

Rail communications between Dhaka and the northern and southern regions of the country have been suspended for hours as a passenger train derailed in Tangail.

The incident took place at the east end of Bangabandhu Bridge near the station around 11:30pm on Saturday.

Station Master Masum Ali confirmed the incident, and said that the train, belonging to Kurigram Express, bound for Kurigram coming from Dhaka, derailed about 150 metres west of the station located on the east side of the Bangabandhu Bridge.

The incident cut off rail communications of Dhaka with northern and southern regions in the country. However, a relief train has already arrived from Dhaka to make repairs, he said.

No one was injured in the incident, he added.
