Police are yet to make any arrests in the case filed over the attack on Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) General Secretary HM Imran on Eid day.
Imran filed an assault case with Maheshpur police station against three people and 6-7 unidentified others on Sunday. A Union Parshad member is among the accused.
Various student bodies, including ruling Awami League backed Bangladesh Chhara League, have condemned the brutal attack and expressed grave concern over the lack of progress in the case.
Law enforcement officials are yet to trace the whereabouts of the accused. When contacted, investigation officer of the case Khan Shariful Islam said: “The accused are now in hiding. We have been trying to arrest them since the case was filed. Our sources are well informed and trying to locate the culprits.”
The named accused in the case are Union Parishad member Azizur Rahman alias Abdul Aziz alias Aziz Member, 57, his son Sagar Hossain, 22, and Ismail Hossain, 35.
The brutal attack on Eid day left Imran, his father and younger brother severely injured, and Imran is still undergoing treatment at Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex. He required at least five stiches in his head.

The attack was reportedly led by the Banshbaria Union Parishad member of ward number 2 under Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district. It took place on Saturday following an altercation regarding the distribution of meat for underprivileged families.
Imran, also DU correspondent of news agency United News of Bangladesh (UNB), claimed he protested Aziz taking 20kg of meat which was collected for the underprivileged and Aziz retaliated.
Aziz was still available over phone till Monday afternoon and denied the allegation to this correspondent, but police said they could not reach him.
Imran’s organization has already threatened to wage a tougher movement if justice is not served.
Over 20 socio-cultural and political student wings, as well as different journalists’ associations across the country issued separate press releases condemning the attack on the journalist leader.
