Cattle rustler found dead near Thakurgaon border

Locals quoting witnesses said Al-Mamun and his associates were attacked by BSF members armed with stones; Al-Mamum fell into the river after he was hit

Police have recovered the body of a Bangladeshi man who had floated up the Nagor River from India and was found near the Ratnai border in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon. 

The deceased was identified as Al-Mamun, 22, a local cattle trader who used to trespass into Indian territory to smuggle in cattle, confirmed Amjankhor Union Parishad chairman Mohammad Akalu.

Locals quoting witnesses said a group of four including Al-Mamun trespassed into Indian territory on Saturday night to smuggle in cattle and phensedyl. 

During their return on early hours of Monday, India’s Border Security Force members ambushed the Bangladeshi men under an iron bridge south of 382 (4) S Pillar near Ratnai border. 

BSF men attacked the group with stones, during which Al-Mamun was injured causing him to fall into the adjacent river. The others managed to escape and return home safely. 

Locals spotted Al-Mamun’s body floating in the Nagor River near Ratnai border on Monday morning and informed the police.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-50) Captain Lt Col Shahidul Islam India’s Border Security Force has been contacted for details in this regard.
