JU student among 2 drowned in Gaibandha

A student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and his friend drowned while bathing in Korotoa river in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Siyam, 21, a second year student of the Physics department of Jahangirnagar University and his friend Sajib. They both hailed from Bogra.

Palashbari police station Officer-in-Charge Masudur Rahman said Siyam along with some friends came to his grandfather's home in Palashbari upazila a few days ago." 

On Friday noon,  Siyam and his seven friends went to the Karotoa river. At one point, all of them got trapped in quicksand and screamed for help.

Locals recovered dead bodies of Siyam and Sajib and rescued the others, the OC said.
