The BFDC enforced the ban on fishing in the lake on May 1 this year
Fishing in Kaptai lake resumed on Tuesday as a ban on fishing, imposed by the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC), in the lake came to an end.
The BFDC enforced the ban on fishing in the lake on May 1 this year.
A three-month fishing ban, from May to July, is in place in the lake every year to facilitate the breeding of fish in the lake.
During the duration of the ban on fishing this year, mother fish laid eggs while the BFDC released fish fries in the lake, said M Touhidul Islam, manager of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC).
Udoyon Barua, a fish trader and general secretary of Rangamati Fisheries Association, said some 22,000 fishermen are dependent on the Kaptai Lake.
The workers and fish traders are passing a busy time since morning, he said.
