Police identify 12, including 5 officials, ‘involved’ in Jessore correction centre murders

As the seven others are already inmates, they would be shown arrested in the case through the court on Sunday as per standard proceedings

Police on Saturday identified 12 people, and among them five were arrested for their reported involvement, over the killing of three inmates of Jessore Juvenile Correction Centre.

The five were officials of the correction centre and were shown arrested in a murder case filed against anonymous persons on Friday by the complainant Roka Miah, father of one of the deceased Parvez Hasan Rabbi. The case was filed at Kotwali police station in Jessore.

As the seven others are already inmates, they would be shown arrested in the case through the court on Sunday as per standard proceedings, said Additional Superintendent of Police Golam Rabbani Sheikh.

The five correction centre officials were: Abdullah Al Masud, the caretaker of the correction centre; Masum Billah, assistant caretaker; Mushfiq Ahmed, probation officer; Shahnur Rahman, physical instructor; and Faruk Hossain, technical instructor.

According to the authorities of the correction centre, a clash at the Juvenile Correction Centre in Jessore left three killed in Jessore on Thursday. The victims were identified as Parvez Hasan Rabbi, 18, Rasel alias Sujon, 18, and Nayeem Hossain, 17.

However, the injured victims and family members of the deceased have claimed that the three died as they were severely beaten by authorities of the correction centre and their inmate followers.

Earlier, two probe committees were formed, while the caretaker Abdullah Al Masud, was suspended.
