All of the newborns died within one and a half hour
A 25-year-old woman on Saturday gave birth to quintuplets in Chandpur’s Kachua upazila, but all of the newborns died within one and a half hour.
Four boys and one girl were born prematurely and underweight at Kachua Tower Hospital and Diagnostic Centre over a span of 15 minutes.
The condition of the woman, Marufa Begum, is stable now.
Shahjalal, assistant manager of the hospital, said: “We tried to keep the babies alive after they were born at around 7pm, but three of them died here.
“We later advised Marufa's family to take the two alive babies to another hospital but they went home in Andirpar village. Later the two babies died at home.”
Sinthia Saha, a doctor of the hospital, said: “They were born in the 22nd week of pregnancy. We have given all kinds of treatment to the babies after they were born. But three of them died here as their health condition was too bad.”
