Locals collected currency notes floating in a drain in front of the Railway Officers' Mess building in Rajshahi's Shiroil on Saturday.
The people in the drain were picking out 1000 taka notes, 500 taka notes, even 5 taka notes. Some papers and files were also floating in the water. Currency notes were slipping out from the files too.
The papers were from the Rajshahi road transport group office.
Matiul Huq Tito, general secretary of Rajshahi Road Transport Group, said: "The papers were old and already started to decay. Since we couldn't burn them anymore, we decided to throw them into the drain.”
“We are embarrassed. We didn't understand that there might be some money left inside those old papers.” he added.
Rickshaw puller Shakil said: “I have got a 500 taka note and a 100 taka note."
“I have found a 1000 taka note and a 500 taka note in the drain." said another local Aslam.
The members of law enforcement agencies visited the scene after the incident went viral on Facebook.
Regarding the matter, Boalia police station Officer-in-Charge(OC) Nibaran Chandra Barman said: “Police visited the scene. A General Diary (GD) was filed. Necessary actions will be taken after investigation.”
