They are battling for their lives at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka
A farmer and his wife were burnt seriously after some unknown miscreants threw acid on them while they were sleeping at their home at Gopinathpur Hatubhanga village in Jamalpur’s Sadar upazila early Sunday.
Mamunur Rashid, 55 and his wife Amena Begum, 45 were burnt to such an extent that they were referred to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka in the evening.
According to family members, the couple has a cow farm in front of their home at Gopinathpur Hatubhanga village where they sleep every night in order to guard the cows. At around 2:30am on Sunday, some miscreants threw acid on them while they were sleeping.
The critically injured couple was first taken to the Jamalpur Sadar Hospital. Later, the hospital authorities referred them to Dhaka for advanced treatment at around 4pm on Sunday.
Regarding the matter, inspector Md Abdul Latif Miah, in charge of Narayanpur Investigation Centre under Sadar police station, said: “We have visited the scene and collected burnt curtain, bed sheet, clothes and other things as evidence.”
“The relatives said they will file a case later as they are now busy with the couple’s treatment. Once a case is filed, we will investigate the matter thoroughly, the police official added.
