General Aziz Ahmed says an investigation is underway and he hopes it will be carried out in a proper way
Bangladesh Army chief Gen Aziz Ahmed has sought exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, who was gunned down in Cox’s Bazar on July 31.
“First of all, I will say that it is a heinous and abominable murder. An investigation is underway and I hope it will be carried out in a proper way,” the chief of army staff said while talking to reporters after attending a Regimental Colour Parade in Chittagong’s Bhatiary on Wednesday.
“Exemplary punishment should be meted out to the real criminals to prevent such incidents happening to any serving or retired army personnel in the future,” he added.
General Aziz went on to say that it is unexpected and regrettable if anyone tries to create instability over the incident.

“We have seen in the past that there is a certain quarter who would want to take undue privilege following any incident. Many have already tried, and still many are trying to do so,” he further said.
Asked about whether the army will put forward any recommendation to avert such an incident, Gen Aziz Ahmed said there is no point in placing separate recommendation on behalf of the army, as a joint probe body is carrying out an investigation of the incident.
Replying to a question about the army’s satisfaction and expectation over the investigation, the army chief said that there is no scope for satisfaction until the criminals are handed down exemplary punishment.
