Sinha Murder: Home Ministry probe body finishes interrogating Pradeep

The committee had to delay its probe and postpone its report submission as RAB had kept the suspended police officer in custody for 15 days

The probe committee commissioned by the Home Ministry has finished interviewing Pradeep Kumar Das, suspended officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station over the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

A team led by Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner of Chittagong, began interviewing Pradeep at the Cox’s Bazar District Jail Gate around 11am Wednesday. The interview went on for almost seven hours till around 5pm in the afternoon.

Mizanur Rahman said the committee will submit their report within the specified time after verifying the information Pradeep provided during the interview.

He said: “We interrogated Pradeep for a long time. We are now verifying the information he gave with ours. We hope that we will be able to submit the report within the government stipulated time.”

The investigation committee had to delay its investigation and postpone its probe report submission as Rapid Action Battalion, leading the investigation, had kept Pradeep in custody for the last 15 days.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pradeep went to jail following his fourth time in remand.

Case Investigation Officer ASP Khairul Islam of RAB 15 said: "We have successfully extracted important information from suspended OC Pradeep in four interrogation sessions spanning a total of 15 days. Now, we must verify this information to continue with the investigation."

Suspended OC Pradeep Kumar Das is the second accused in the murder case and he is yet to record a confessional statement with the court, the IO added.

On July 31, retired army officer Sinha was shot to death by Liakat at the Shamlapur police check post on Marine Drive in Teknaf's Baharchhara.

Sinha was on his way back to Nilima Resort in Himchhari after filming a video on Marishbunia hill in Teknaf.

On August 5, Sinha's older sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with the Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with the murder where 15 people were named as accused.
