BSF shoots dead Bangladeshi man at Kurigram border

The man died on the spot after receiving a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Pakhiura border in Narayanpur union under Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram. 

Police recovered the body of Md Chhabil, 38, a local resident of Pakhiura, and sent it for an autopsy following the incident around 2pm Thursday, confirmed Mamun Or Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kachakata police station in Nageshwari.

According to police and locals, a BSF member on duty at the Pakhiura border shot Chhabil while he was trying to smuggle Indian cows into Narayanpur early Thursday. The man died on the spot after receiving a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Meanwhile, Lt Col Jamal Hossain, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB 22) Battalion in Kurigram said he couldn’t confirm whether the man was killed by the BSF or not.

“We are trying to contact BSF officials to shed some light on the matter,” he added.
