Police detain another two for questioning
A court in Dinajpur has granted investigators custody of the prime suspect in the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father at her official residence.
On Sunday, the Detective Branch (DB) produced Asadul Islam in the senior judicial magistrate’s court.
“We pleaded for 10 days in remand, but the court granted seven days,” investigating officer Zafar Imam, the officer-in-charge of Dinajpur DB, said.
Earlier in the day, Asadul was handed over to the investigators from the Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted since his arrest by the Rapid Action Battalion on Friday.
Two more detained
Meanwhile, two more people have been detained for questioning over the attack.
Ghoraghat police OC Amirul Islam said that they have held local residents, Shahjahan Sheikh and Sohel Rana early on Sunday.
“They have detained separate raids. We are questioning them at the police station,” he said.
On Saturday, police detained prime suspect Asadul’s brother Ashraful Islam, the UNO office’s gardener Md Sultan and one Shyamol Chandra, a relative of Shantu Kumar Biswas, a suspect in the attack who is now being quizzed in remand.
Shantu and another suspect Nabirul Islam have been remanded for seven days.
