Two more detained over attack on UNO

A Dinajpur court remanded two suspects for seven days over the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father Omar Ali on Saturday

Police detained two more people on early Sunday for interrogation in connection with the attack on Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat upazila UNO Wahida Khanam and her father Omar Ali Sheikh.

The detainees were identified as Shahjahan Sheikh and Sohel Rana, residents of Ghoraghat upazila.

Confirming the matter, Ghoraghat police station Officer-in-Charge Amirul Islam said: “Police have detained the duo during separate drives on early Sunday. We are interrogating them.”

Earlier on Saturday, police detained Asraful Islam, brother of expelled Jubo League leader Asadul Islam, the prime accused in the case, UNO office’s gardener Md Sultan and Shamol Chandra, a relative of Shantu Kumar Biswas.

Dinajpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Shishir Kumar Basu passed the order after police produced Nabirul Islam and Shantu Kumar Biswas with a 10-day remand prayer. 

Imam Zafar, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Dinajpur police and the new investigating officer (IO) of the case, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
