Bir Shreshtho Mostafa Kamal’s mother passes away

She was laid to rest in the family burial ground, beside her husband's grave, on Tuesday

Maleka Begum, mother of Bir Shreshtho Mohammad Mostafa Kamal, has passed away in her house in Moutupi village of Alinagar union in Bhola Sadar upazila.

She breathed her last at around 7:40am on Tuesday at the age of 96, confirmed Selim Ahmed Liton, Maleka's grandson and nephew of Bir Shreshtho Mostafa.

Previously on August 18, Maleka was admitted to Bhola district hospital due to various old-age complications.

On August 20, she was moved to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment. She was brought back to her home on Thursday.

Her namaz-e-janaza was held at Bir Shreshtho Eidgah ground, in front of her residence, after Asr prayers. 

Representatives of local administration, police, and different political and socio-cultural organizations paid their homage by placing wreaths on her coffin.

Bhola Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Alam Siddique, general secretary of district Awami League and Zila Parishad Chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, Superintendent of Police Sarker Md Kawsar, Lieutenant Ahad of Patuakhali Sheikh Hasina Cantonment, district unit of Muktijouddha commander Dosto Mahmud also placed wreaths on the coffin before the janaza.

She was laid to rest at the family burial spot near her home, beside the grave of her husband Habibur Rahman, after the janaza.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Maleka Begum, BSS reports. 

In a condolence message, the president prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

In her message, the prime minister also prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for the bereaved family.
