Eight people have so far been arrested and grilled in the case
No progress has been made despite multiple arrests and remand of suspects in the case over the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father freedom fighter Omor Ali.
In the latest development, police have detained and are questioning Awami League’s Palsha union unit President Mainul Islam and Wahida’s house help Jabeda, gardener Sultan, sweeper Arshola and driver Yasin.
Three other accused are also being questioned by Detective Branch (DB) of police.
The case investigation officer, DB OC Imam Zafar, said there has not been much progress during the remand.

He said: “We have questioned Asadul Haque, the main accused in the UNO Wahida and her father’s attack case, for the third day. The accused pair of Nabirul Islam and Santu are being questioned for the fourth day.”
Imam Zafar said that there has been no progress in the case even on the fourth day of remanding the accused.
Besides police, Detective Branch of Police and the Rapid Action Battalion have been taking different people into their custody for interrogation and releasing them, according to sources from Ghoraghat police station.
On Thursday, Wahida Khanam was seriously injured in an attack by miscreants who broke into her official residence in Ghoraghat.

Her father, Omar Ali, was also injured in the gruesome attack. They were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
Later, the UNO was airlifted from Rangpur to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter.
She was admitted to National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka, where doctors have said Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam’s condition has improved further as she is now able to take liquid food from her mouth.
