BSF guns down Bangladeshi man along Thakurgaon border

The incident took place around 11:45am Thursday when a group of four to five fishermen went fishing in the Nagor River along the Indian border

A Bangladeshi man has reportedly been gunned down by members of the Indian Border Security Force along the Beurjhari border in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon.

The deceased has been identified as Shariful Islam, 30, a local fisherman from Choto Choruigati village.

Lt Col Shahidul Islam, commanding officer of BGB 50 battalion, said that the incident took place around 11:45am Thursday when a group of four to five fishermen went fishing in Nagor River along the Indian border.

At one point as they trespassed into Indian territory, 50 yards off Bangladesh border, BSF personnel from Boro Billah camp in Uttar Dinajpur district of India opened fire on them, leaving Shariful dead on the spot.

Other fishermen carried his body back inside the Bangladesh side.

On information, BGB members and police recovered his body.

Protesting the incident, BGB sent a letter to BSF asking for a flag meeting in this regard.
