9 RU teachers file GD seeking security

Seeking security of life, nine teachers of Rajshahi University (RU), filed a General Diary (GD) with Motihar police station on Sunday.

Confirming the matter, ASM Siddikur Rahman , officer-in-charge (OC)  of Motihar police station said: “Teachers have filed a General Diary (GD) seeking security. We are investigating the matter.”

The teachers are Professor Sultan-Ul-Islam, chairman of Department of Geology & Mining, Ekram Ullah, chairman of Political Science, Professor Ali Reza of department of Management Studies, Professor Asit Roy of Department of Music, Professor Mujibul Haque Azad Khan of Department of Psychology, Professor Jahangir Alam South of Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Professor Tarikul Islam of Department of Chemistry, Professor Mizanur Rahman of Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, and Professor Faruk Hossain of Department of Music and Dramatics.

They all are involved in the movement demanding removal of the incumbent administration under the banner of “Rajshahi University against Corruption and Irregularities”.

According to the General Diary, on September 10, some teachers of the university were discussing something among themselves in the Teachers’ Lounge of the Dean’s Complex at noon. At that time, they came to know that some outsiders led by Saddam Hossain, assistant teacher of Rajshahi University School, were filming the vehicles of teachers parked outside the Dean’s Complex. When the teachers came out of the lounge to know what was happening there, the outsiders also took photos of them.

When the teachers asked the outsiders why they were filming and taking photos, Mamun and the outsiders hurled abusive words at them and left the place.

Regarding the matter, Sultan-Ul-Islam, spokesperson for teachers demonstrating under the banner of Rajshahi University against Corruption and Irregularities, said: “We have submitted some complaints to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Education, and the University Grants Commission (UGC), regarding the corruption of the incumbent Vice Chancellor."

"Taking cognizance of the complaints, UGG has arranged an open public hearing which will be held on September 17.” he said

“We assume they are trying to influence the upcoming public hearing. Besides, there is publicity on campus that Saddam Hussein, assistant teacher at the Rajshahi University School, is patronized by the vice-chancellor." the professor added.

Contacted, denying the allegations, Saddam Hossain said: “I was going to my home from Juberi building via Parish road on that day. I heard teachers shouting, so I went there. Waiting a few minutes there, I came back.”

Asked about the outsiders, Proctor Professor Md Lutfor Rahman, said: “I do not know anything as I was not in Rajshahi. If I get any complaints, I will take action upon investigation.”
