The families of three suspected militants -- shown arrested for their reported involvement with the bomb blast in Dhaka’s Paltan -- claim that the trio is not involved with any militant organization.

On Thursday, counter-terrorism police arrested four suspected New JMB members including Mamun Al Mojahadi alias Sumon alias Abu Abdur Rahman, Md Al Amin alias Abu Ziyad, and Sarwar Hossain Rahat, whose families claimed that the three are innocent in a press briefing on Monday.

Sumon's father, Sheikh Moslem Uddin, also former general secretary of Sreepur Thana Awami League, said: "My son is an undergraduate student of Dhaka's Government Titumir College. On August 18, a few people identifying themselves as law enforcers picked him up.

"We couldn't locate him for about a month. On September 11 (Friday), we saw a news article published on bdnews24 (news portal), that four people including my son were arrested from Uttara’s Azampur on Thursday on suspicion that they are involved with Paltan  bomb blast.

"But it is not possible for my son to be involved in JMB activities. We are by heart supporters and activists of Awami League. We believe in the spirit of the War of Liberation."

He further requested that the arrested individuals are not abused unjustly over any false allegations.

A similar statement was expressed by Al-Amin's mother Mahbuba Begum and wife Swapna Begum and Sarwar's parents Liton Miya and Nasima Begum.

Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner at the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime or CTTC unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said Sumon and three others were arrested based on specific information by one of the suspects of the bomb blast who was arrested from Sylhet.

"Sumon used to chat with JMB members over communication apps on a regular basis. He also trained others to do his bidding. He has 12 other cases filed against him."

On July 24, a bomb blast occurred near a police box in Paltan. No one was injured in the incident.
