A woman and her daughter were reportedly raped by two youths in Chunarughat of Habiganj.
The accused, Shakil Miah, 22, and his friend Harun Miah, 25, were arrested on Sunday afternoon after a case was filed against them on Saturday by one of the rape survivors.
Champak Dham, officer-in-charge of Chunarughat police station confirmed the incident.
Quoting locals, police said a group of robbers made a forced entry into the plaintiff’s house, looted valuables and raped them on Friday.
The daughter later also filed a case naming three and a few other unnamed people who were involved in the brutal incident.
Eight held for rape
At least eight people have been arrested for their involvement in different rape cases in four districts across the country on Sunday.
In Comilla, a Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal has ordered the prompt arrest of all accused in a rape case, including a school teacher.
Judge Md Rafikul Islam directed Chouddagram police station to file a First Information Report (FIR) and placed an order to arrest all accused in the case, on Sunday.
Earlier, the prime accused in the case, Tarekur Rahman Chowdhury, the seventh grader’s cousin and her teacher, raped and made her pregnant around April this year.
She gave birth to a child but the accused refused to take responsibility for his heinous act, so we applied to the court, said Adv Nishat Salauddin, lawyer for the plaintiff.
In Rangamati, a sixth-grade madrasa student was reportedly raped after she was taken to a hotel in Rangamati.
The accused has been identified as Sajjad Hossain of Gabtol village in Rangunia upazila, Chittagong.
Police arrested him on Saturday from the hotel in Rangamati, a day after the alleged rape took place.
Confirming the matter, Rangunia police station Sub-Inspector Robiul Islam said: "On Friday around 6pm, Sajjad and one of his friends forced the girl to go to Rangamati with them. There, Sajjad raped the girl in the Bonorupa Hotel.
"That night the girl's family made a complaint at the police station. After receiving the complaint we first located their whereabouts using technology. Then we rescued the girl from the hotel. Sajjad was later arrested on Saturday morning. We are trying to arrest his associate,” added SI Robiul.
He said Sajjad knew the girl and was able to force her to go to Rangamati. "He gave his confessional statement in court."
In Sylhet, police arrested two young men from separate places early Sunday in a case filed in connection with the rape of a fifth grade girl in Rayergaon of Sylhet Sadar upazila.
The arrested are Jasim Uddin, 22, son of Nasir Uddin and Md Ekhlas Miah, 20, son of Tojmmul Ali, 20, residents of Rayergaon, reports UNB.
They were arrested from Sunamganj and Sylhet districts, said Okil Uddin, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station.
Earlier on September 13, the victim’s father filed a case with the police station accusing two people for kidnapping and raping his daughter.
In Sirajganj, police have arrested four people for attempting to rape a woman in Chandigati village of Sirajganj.
The accused, Emdadul Haque, Kaosar Ali, Nasir Hossain and Abdul Khalek, were bringing their colleague, a female worker, home on Saturday.
However, on their way home, they forced her to a deserted place and tried to rape her.
When the woman saved herself and informed her neighbours, they caught the four perpetrators and handed them over to the police.
Confirming the incident, Nurul Islam, inspector of Sadar police station, said: “With the help of locals, we arrested the four accused and sent them to jail after presenting them in court on Sunday afternoon.”
