Two crude bombs detonated at the Hospital Road of Kalai upazila around 8pm on Sunday
At least 3 locals have been injured in crude bomb blast at a rally of an Awami League candidate for the municipal by-polls in Joypurhat.
The injured were admitted into the Kalai Upazila Health Complex after the explosives detonated at the Hospital Road of Kalai upazila around 8pm on Sunday.
One of the injured has been identified as Abdul Latif, son of late Abdul Jabbar from Kalai upazila.
Municipal mayoral candidate Toufiqul Islam Talukdar from the Awami League said municipal by-polls is scheduled to be held on October 10 for Kalai municipality as the former mayor Halimul Alam John passed away. "A peaceful rally has been ongoing due to this."
He alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) activists are behind the attack.
BNP candidate for the by-polls, Anisur Rahman Talukdar alleged that the incident has been staged by the Awami League as they don't want BNP to be a part of the election.
Kalai police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Selim Malik said legal actions will be taken following an investigation into the incident.
