Border killing: Missing man’s body found floating in Mahananda

The body of a resident of Chapainawabganj’s Bholahat--who went missing three days ago and had been presumed killed by India’s Border Security Force (BSF)-- has been found floating in the Mahananda river by local residents of Bholahat, Chapainawabganj.

The deceased, Nuruddin, 28, along with few others reportedly intruded into Indian territory through Polladanga on September 30, local sources said.

Among the missing men, Nur was presumed to have been killed by BSF officials the same night, said Nur’s father Durul Hoda.

“The local fishermen saw a floating body on the river and informed us that it was my son Nur’s on Wednesday. We contacted BGB-59 officials but they did not pay us any heed,” said the father of the deceased.

Denying their allegations, Lt Col Mahmudul Hasan, commander of BGB-59 camp, said: “We contacted BSF right after we were informed of the incident. But BSF denied they had any role in the death of the man.”

“However, after considering the statements of his family and police, we have decided to serve a notice on BSF protesting the incident,” added the BGB official.
