Sunamganj gang rape: Prime accused held in Brahmanbaria

Police in a drive arrested the prime suspect in a case, filed over the reported rape of a 25-year-old woman after torturing her father in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district, from Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria on Friday.

The arrestee was identified as Shamim Ahmed, a suspected Yaba dealer of Gotgaon village in Sunamganj.

A team of Jagannathpur police station with the help of DB police arrested Shamim from Beltala in Brahmanbaria around 4 pm, said Ikhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur police station.

With Shamim, six people have so far been arrested in this connection.

On October 5, Shamim along with his cohorts beat up the victim's father with iron rods after they could not find his daughter at their house in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj.

The man had sent his daughter away after Shamim and his associates had picked up the woman and gang-raped her a month ago.

Police later brought the woman from Nabiganj area of Habiganj district on October 6 and she filed a case with Jagannathpur Police Station in this connection.
