Man arrested over attempting to rape 10-year-old in Feni

Police on Saturday arrested a rickshaw-van driver, accused in a case filed over attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in Daganbhuiyan upazila.

The attempt of rape took place at Boitharpar village of Chadrapur union in the upazila on October 4.

The arrested Kabir Ahmed, 38, was known to the victim. He undressed her when she was playing near her house and let her go when she began crying, according to the case documents.

Police have also arrested a community arbitrator who is involved in mediating the matter by taking Tk12,000 as a fine from Kabir, confirmed Daganbhuiyan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Sikder.

Union Parishad Chairman Masud Raihan said, “After locals got to know of the incident, we called the people involved (in the attempted rape and mediation) in a the union parishad office and informed the police.”
