Noakhali gang rape: Another accused arrested

Personnel of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) have arrested one more accused in a case filed in connection with the gang rape of a housewife at Eklashpur village under Begumganj upazila in Noakhali.

Samsuddin Ahmmed alias Sumon, 39, the sixth accused in the case filed under the Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Act, was arrested in Comilla town on Monday evening, according to PBI inspector Mamunur Rashid Patwary, the investigation officer of the case.

With this fresh arrest, a total of 11 people, including six named accused, have been arrested so far.

Of the 11, seven accused gave confessional statements before the court at different times.

The housewife was gang-raped after being stripped naked by a group of miscreants at Joykrishnapur village of Eklashpur union in Begumganj upazila on September 2.

The miscreants also recorded the horrific incident on video.

Video footage of the incident recently went viral on social media and sparked widespread public outrage, condemnation and protests across the country.

The woman filed two cases with Begumganj police station after the video went viral.
