As many as six more suspected operatives of New JMB, an offshoot of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), have been arrested for their alleged connection with the February blast at a traffic police box in Chittagong.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested Mohidul Alam, 24, Jahir Uddin, 28, Moinuddin, 28, Abu Sadek, 19, Rahmatullah Akib, 24, and Md Alauddin, 23, during drives conducted in Bandarban and Lohagara upazila of Chittagong from Tuesday afternoon till early Wednesday.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Asif Mohiuddin, additional deputy commissioner of CMP’s CTTC unit, said: “All those who have been arrested are members of the banned militant outfit New JMB.”
Earlier on May 4, law enforcers in Chittagong arrested three more New JMB members – Saifullah, 24, Emran, 25, and Abu Saleh, 25 – over the incident.
The arrested members confessed, under primary investigation, to using a remote control-like device to detonate the explosives at the traffic police box, said CMP.
