Two indigenous girls drowned in a lake while they were playing at Monatek village in Mohalchhari upazila of Khagrachhari on Monday.
The deceased Ranjuri Chakma, 6 was the daughter of Kajol Chakma and Bristi Chakma, 7 was the daughter of late Suresh Chakma from the village.
Mohalchhari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahangir Alom confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
OC Jahangir said, an artificial reservoir was made to reserve rainwaters in order to farm fish at Monatek village. The two children were playing beside the reservoir on Monday afternoon and fell down into it suddenly.
One of their friends named Tulona Chakama informed their relatives about the matter. They recovered the dead bodies from the lake.
A Unnatural Death (UD) case was filed following the death of two children, the OC added.
