The crew members fell into grave danger when the vessel caught fire in the Bay of Bengal
A total of 14 members of a lighter vessel crew were rescued by the members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in the early hours of Tuesday.
Bangladesh Coast Guard spokesperson Lt Com M Hayat Ibne Siddique confirmed the matter and said: “The bottom of the lighter vessel MV Carina-1, laden with 2,000 tons of wheat, ruptured and the engine room caught fire in the Bay of Bengal.”
After being informed about the incident, the Bangladesh Coast Guard ship Shyamol Bangla rushed to the spot and rescued the crew.
The rescued crew members were given primary treatment before they were returned to their families and the vessel owner later on Tuesday.
