Language Movement veteran M Nurul Islam Dadu has passed away due to old age complications. He was 91.
He died at Khulna City Medical College and Hospital at 8am on Wednesday.
Nurul Islam is survived by three sons and a daughter. He has also left behind a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
M Nurul Islam Dadu was born in Khulna city on May 2, 1934. He was the eldest child of late Dr Khadem Ahmed (doctor by profession) and late Asiya Khatun.
He played a role in the Language Movement in Khulna and took part in the rally in 1952. He was the general secretary of Khulna unit NAP (National Awami Party) in 1957 and also led the 1969 mass upsurge from Khulna.
Nurul Islam also played an important role in the Liberation War. He was the president of Khulna city unit NAP and Jatiyatabadi Jukto Front of Ziaur Rahman in 1978.
Nurul Islam was also a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) politician and the former Member of Parliament of Khulna 4 and worked as the member of the advisory council of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
