Sharif is wanted in eight other cases including one for rape
A court in Noakhali has placed a local unit Jubo League leader on a four-day remand for reportedly raping a housewife at gunpoint at Chatkhil upazila.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Saidin Naheen granted the remand order on Thursday afternoon, confirmed Sub-inspector Iqbal Hossain, investigation officer of the case.
“We pleaded for a 10-day remand in two separate cases, but the court issued a 4-day remand,” the IO said.
Following a case filed by the victim, police on Wednesday arrested Mujibul Rahman Sharif, 30, the leader of local unit of local Jubo League, in connection with the incident.
The arrestee, the president of Noakhola union unit Jubo League, was expelled by the upazila high command following the incident.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Chatkhil police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Md Anowarul Islam said: “The rape-survivor has been sent to the Noakhali General Hospital for a medical test.”
According to the case statement, while the 23-year-old woman, also the wife of an expatriate, was sleeping along with her children, Sharif entered her house at 5am, and raped her at gunpoint.
While he was committing the heinous crime, armed accomplices of the perpetrator were staying outside the house so that no one could attempt to save her, according to the case statement.
He also recorded a video footage of the incident and threatened to kill her if she discloses the matter.
