An attempted rape was foiled by an intended victim after she called national emergency service 999 to seek help from police in Pirojpur.
The young woman called 999 at around 5am on Tuesday and told the police that she was being held captive in a house in the district’s Laxmipur area under Bhandaria municipality by a miscreant.
Police rushed to the spot and rescued the 19-year-old college student and also arrested two people over the incident.
The arrestees have been identified as Sohel Munshi, 26, and Firoza Begum.
Speaking on the matter, Bhandaria police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Maksudur Rahman said: “The victim has filed a case with us.
“The main accused in the case, Sohel, tried to rape the college student with the help of his neighbor Firoza Begum. After receiving a call on the national emergency service 999, we immediately went to the spot and rescued the girl,” the OC added.
According to the police and local residents, the victim came to Firoza’s house to take back some documents she had left behind on Monday afternoon.
Then at Firoza’s request, the girl decided to spend the night at her place.
At around 5am on Tuesday, Sohel with Firoza’s help entered the house and tried to rape the 19-year-old girl.
The OC said: “The two arrested persons will soon be sent to court.”
