Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested a suspended assistant sub-inspector of police in connection with Rayhan’s death, allegedly in police custody in Sylhet, on October 11.
Ashek Elahi was arrested Wednesday night from Sylhet Police Lines where he was attached after being suspended, PBI Sylhet Superintendent Muhammad Khaled-uz-Zaman said.
He was produced before the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman Thursday afternoon. The judge granted a 5-day remand to PBI in response to 7-day remand prayer for his interrogation, added the police official.
Meanwhile, suspended constable Harunur Rashid, arrested over the same case on Friday, was also produced in court on Thursday after his 5-day remand with PBI. The judge granted a 3-day remand to PBI in response to 5-day remand prayer for his interrogation.
The 33-year-old Rayhan Ahmed of Neharipara area in Sylhet city died at Sylhet MAG Medical College Hospital on October 11 morning, an hour after he was brought in by police personnel of Bandarbazar police outpost.
Next day, his wife filed a case with Sylhet Kotwali police station accusing several unnamed alleging that her husband was tortured inside the outpost which led to the death.
So far, four people, including three policemen, have been arrested in the case. However, the key accused SI Akbar Hossain is still on the run.
