Police have held one person from Feni’s Banani area on allegations of kidnapping and raping a 10-year-old girl.
“The accused, Manik Chandra Das, was held soon after the victim’s mother filed a case in this regard on Tuesday night,” Feni Model police station Officer-in-Charge Omar Haider told Dhaka Tribune.
“Medical examination of the victim has already been completed at Feni General Hospital. The accused has also been taken to the hospital for a DNA test,” he added.
According to police and family sources, Manik Chandra Das, a barber by profession, and the victim’s family have been neighbours for a long time.
On October 15, the victim and her 8-year-old younger sister went to Manik’s barber shop with lunch as his wife was ill at home. At that time, Manik tactfully sent the younger child to buy some snacks and in the meantime held the victim inside his shop.
He then blindfolded the child and raped her after threatening to kill the victim’s parents if she does not comply.
Later, the younger child came back to the shop and found it locked. She then found the victim lying unconscious on the shop floor.
