Kaikhali Union Parishad Chairman Sheikh Abdur Rahman is now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Medical College Hospital
Unidentified miscreants have shot and stabbed a Union Parishad (UP) chairman in Satkhira.
The incident took place at the district’s Kaikhali Union Parishad office around 7:30pm on Sunday, when 10-12 miscreants, all in black head coverings, tried to kill the chairman.
The victim, Kaikhali Union Parishad Chairman Sheikh Abdur Rahman, is currently undergoing treatment at the Satkhira Medical College Hospital after getting seriously injured in the attack.
Mamun, an eyewitness, said: “Around 10 to 12 miscreants, all wearing black burkhas, entered the Kaikhali Union Parishad premises on seven to eight motorcycles.
“Suddenly, they opened fire at the chairman and shot him on the side of his head. The miscreants then stabbed Rahman in different parts of his body. The attackers fled the scene when they heard locals approaching,” Mamun, also a cousin of the victim, added.
He further said: “Rahman was first taken to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex. He was then shifted to the Satkhira Medical College Hospital when his condition deteriorated.”
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Shyamnagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Huda, said: “We rushed to the spot as soon as we were informed. Bullet casings and other evidence has already been recovered from the crime scene. We are working to catch the people responsible for the attack and to uncover the reasons behind the incident.”
