Update : 17 Nov 2020, 01:04 AM

A young man from Sylhet has threatened to kill ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan on Facebook Live, for allegedly inaugurating a Kali Puja program in Kolkata.

However, he later came to Facebook Live again and apologized for his actions.

The young man was identified as Mohsin Talukdar, son of late Azad Baksh, from Shahpur Talukdarpara village in Tukerbazar union, Sylhet.

Mohsin’s family claimed that he was mentally disturbed.

The young man came to Facebook Live at 12:06am on Sunday and threatened that he would slaughter Shakib.

The man first came to Facebook Live wearing a hat and gave salutations, and said: "Shakib Al Hasan came to the country a few days ago. I was happy when he went to perform Hajj a while ago.

“But he went to India to inaugurate a puja program after returning to Bangladesh.

“It has hurt the hearts of the Muslims. I will hack him to death if I see him.”

The young man also criticized Shakib for misbehaving with a fan for trying to take a selfie.

On Monday morning, Mohsin Talukdar came live on Facebook again.

At the time, he lamented the words he had said during the previous live video. "I came live last night and insulted Shakib Al Hasan. But after performing Fajr prayers, I realized that was not right.

“Then I prayed for his salvation. I prayed that Allah may guide him. Although I said a lot of things out of excitement, it was not right. I apologize for that.”

Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahboub Morshed on behalf of police lodged a case against Mohsin in connection with the death threat on Monday night. The case was filed with Jalalabad police station under Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).

When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of SMP ABM Ashraf Ullah Taher said several teams of police are working to arrest Mohsin.

Masum Talukdar, Mohsin Talukdar's elder brother, while talking to Dhaka Tribune, said: "Mohsin has been behaving erratically recently. He seems mentally unwell from the way he speaks.

“The family is ashamed of his actions. On behalf of our family, we apologize to Shakib, the pride of Bangladesh.”

Md Shahid Ahmed, chairman of Tukerbazar union in Sylhet sadar, said: "The family has said that Mohsin Talukder often annoys them by his erratic activities.

"After getting to know about the incident in detail, we will have a meeting with the elders of the village panchayat (village court) to decide what to do next,” he added.

“Like the whole world, we also respect the pride of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan. The whole village is ashamed of the incident.”

Meanwhile, Shakib on Monday evening apologized for hurting the sentiments of his supporters with a series of recent activities which made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Shakib took to his social media accounts to deliver his apology.

Allegations were raised that Shakib had inaugurated a Kali Puja program in Kolkata on November 12, and he inaugurated the 59th Shyama Puja of “Amra Shobai Club” at Kankurgachi in East Kolkata by cutting the ribbon and lighting the lamp.

In his video, Shakib said the media reports of him inaugurating the puja were untrue.
