At least five people, including two brothers, were injured in an acid attack carried out by their neighbours for Tk14,500 in Faridpur.
The incident occurred in the district’s Brammandi village in Sadarpur upazila on Tuesday night.
Of those injured, Gopal Das, 40, his brother Bapan Das, 25, and their cousin Tapan Das, 28, are currently undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The other two victims, Pankaj Sheel and Caharan Karmakar, are being treated at a local hospital.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Kartik Das, a cousin of the injured, said: “Ram, Lakshan and Sushanto owed Tk14,500 to their neighbour Gopal Das, who is a goldsmith. Gopal had been asking for his money back for quite some time.
“On Tuesday night, a quarrel broke out when Gopal again asked for the money from the trio.”
“At one point of the argument, Ram, Lakshan and Sushanto along with their family members attacked Gopal. Acid was thrown by them when Gopal’s family tried to save him. This led to their [the victims] sustaining burn injuries.
“They were first taken to a local hospital. From there, the doctors referred Gopal, Bapan and Tapan to Dhaka on Wednesday night for better treatment,” he added.
Kartik said: “We have filed a complaint with Sadarpur police station over the attack. The OC there is investigating the matter”
