Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) early Saturday seized 60 gold bars, worth Tk4.89 crore, from Shahzadpur border in Chougachha upazila of Jessore.
The gold bars altogether weigh seven kilograms, said Lt Col Mohammad Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB 49 battalion, in a press briefing around 12:30am on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB 49 conducted a drive in the area and saw two men trying to cross the border over to India.
Realizing the presence of BGB, the duo dropped a polythene bag which carried the gold bars wrapped in clothes and managed to escape over to India.
The process of filing a case and depositing the gold bars at the police station is underway, said the BGB officer.
